Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation The VA-PALS project has been made possible through a generous grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation. The resources are being used to improve the quality of lung screening programs and accelerate the availability of access to this care within the VA.
VA Office of Rural Health Matching support is provided by the VA Office of Rural Health to hire lung screening nurse navigators at each of the 10 VA medical centers in the VA-PALS implementation network. The screening navigators for this project play a pivotal role in educating Veterans on their screening options and guiding them through the process if they are interested. Their efforts have a dedicated focus on shared decision making, smoking cessation, and outreach to rural Veterans who are at a high risk for developing lung cancer.
VA Secretary’s Center for Strategic Partnerships The Secretary’s Center for Strategic Partnerships supported the founding of VA-PALS by facilitating the public-private partnership with the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation. The resulting grant has funded the development of the open source lung screening software management system VAPALS-ELCAP. The Secretary’s Center for Strategic Partnerships supports VA-PALS as an initiative that will save the lives of hundreds of Veterans each year and provide the VA with the opportunity to be a global leader in lung cancer mortality reduction. |
